Portable Medical Solutions Slide 16

Another solution that TI has available is MCU RF, or RFID as it is commonly called. Shown in this slide is a Passive Low Frequency Interface Device, PaLFI, which in a typical system would be communicating with an MSP430, which in turn communicates with some kind of a sensor. As an example, a sensor would obtain information from within a patient’s body which would be processed by the MSP430. The PaLFI, which is a low-frequency transponder, would then be energized and transmit the data to a base station or a reader/writer which is external to the body. So here, we are able to power the MSP430 microcontroller with only a low-frequency field. A traditional battery is not required to be in the Sensor System. The possibilities are endless with this type of system.
