rf mod
First, this presentation will have a short introduction on the RF fundamentals. An RF signal is called the carrier because it will carry the information signal such as data, video and voice. If users visualize the RF signal, it looks like a sinusoidal wave with a period which is inversely proportional to the carrier frequency. So higher is the frequency and lower is the period. For example, the period of a 1 GHz signal is 1 ns. To transmit information, users have two solutions either analog modulation or digital modulation. Analog modulation adds to the carrier, a lower frequency signal that contains the information. In a digital type of modulation, users have a pulse signal (train of 0-1 pulses with different pulse width and duty cycle) added to the carrier. Whatever is the type of modulation, the fundamental function of the RF power amplifier is to carry the information a long distance without degrading the transmitted information.
