When designing a solution, one of the first decisions to make is what type of LED to use. LED arrays offer several advantages compared with traditional discrete LEDs. One advantage is lower material cost since an LED Array eliminates Printed Circuit Board costs and also eliminates the expenses associated with picking and placing discrete LEDs. In addition, because discrete LEDs are a diffuse light source the cost of an additional diffuser is not necessary to eliminate pixilation. In addition, an LED array can lower overall design costs when one or two LED packages can enable several different beam angle and lumen configurations with no additional Printed Circuit Board layout required. LED arrays also eliminated the cost and complexity associated with reflow soldering. Finally, the fact that an LED Array is one light source instead of many means LED arrays emulate the look of traditional lights and prevents multiple shadows in the light beam.
