Biasing by logic is easily accomplished and it is recommended that an OC or CMOS device be used to guarantee turnoff. In this case, nominal IF is between 2 and 20 mA and the designer must be aware of leakage causing an “on” state since 0.5 V at 200 uA can turn it on. Therefore, use a low current to turn on the device and allow better control of the output current. Additionally, the amount of current supplied determines the speed of turn on.
