The characteristic behavior chart for the input Forward Voltage vs. Ambient Temperature for a Solid State Relay is shown here. As can be seen, for the input Infrared Emitting Diode (IRED) the Forward Voltage decreases with increasing temperature. Therefore, the input circuit design should consider this change in Forward Voltage over temperature in order to select an appropriate resistor value for the input. Even though the amount of change is small as compared to other system voltages, the designer should ensure that the change in Forward Voltage does not place the input drive circuit at the limit of the design. Also, the Forward Current may drop slightly due to driver resistance changes in the circuit.
