This slide reviews why electrical safety and absence of voltage testing is so important. In a 10-year period, more than 24,000 electrical injuries were recorded in US workplaces. Looking at the data and digging down into the causes, it is evident that about 35% are classified as a result of activities that occur during routine industrial maintenance, with a large portion of these occurring on low-voltage, less than 1000 V, three-phase systems. What is even more interesting is that multiple reports have identified the failure to turn off power and verify the absence of voltage before performing work as a leading cause.
