RFID Technology and Applications Slide 20

To summarize, the strengths of Low Frequency RFID are the ability to read through materials with no reduction in performance, the ability to read in wet or dirty conditions, and a well defined, homogenous read zone. These are the main reasons that LF RFID is used for livestock, waste management and payment systems. A number of international standards exist, mainly for livestock but the ISO 18000-2 regulations attempt to define all standards for LF RFID by incorporating individual standards as appendices. Also, waste management standards are emerging with the EN14803 recommendations used throughout much of Europe.
