Overcurrent conditions are a common cause of field failure, consequently, latch-type protection circuitry was added to ROHM drivers. ROHM’s latch type overcurrent protection provides instantaneous, more reliable protection than a fuse. An overcurrent situation that is allowed to persist can eventually lead to device failure and motor damage as well. Removing the source of overcurrent and restarting can restore normal operation. In some applications, the OCP feature can eliminate the need for fusing altogether.
