No Charge Pump

Most of drivers covered in this training module implement a current mode power conversion scheme that is more efficient than a charge pump, reduces external component count, and increases reliability. To highlight the improved reliability, if the VG or CP2 terminal shown in the charge pump circuit on the left were shorted to ground, there would be an internal diode failure that would likely result in destruction of the IC. This scenario has been eliminated with the removal of the charge pump.
