WiFi Modules Overview Slide 6

This presentation is going to cover the ST wireless modules, specifically the Wi-Fi modules. There are lots of module makers out there in various shapes and forms. Some of them use their own devices, some of them use other people's devices. However, it is important to point out that the modules that ST makes are all ST sourced. They make the entire silicon package that goes into it and they control the entire production process. Because of this, they are not at the mercy of a supplier to provide them with a certain type of a device if they have issues. The modules are designed to be easy to use and quick to design in. These are modules that are geared towards engineers who may not be RF experts. A lot of the customers in the embedded space in industrial applications may not have the RF expertise to be able to implement this easily. So by using module form, the design is more straight forward, as is the certification process. The cost of certifications can become burdensome for low volume opportunities. So modules really make sense in that 150K and below size offer opportunity where certifications and the full stack are implemented on the module itself. A few things to point out, for instance, are that ST Wi-Fi modules are cloud aware. They are cloud compatible with many different providers. The modules are cloud agnostic from the module point of view because the host controller that is talking to the module would really have the protocol that would be required for a particular type of a cloud partner. Additionally, ST’s Wi-Fi modules have full end-to-end security that will be covered later in this presentation.
