Shown here is an example of a customer's product with the host controller, Wi-Fi module, user interface, possible sensors and custom application. Communication is via AT commands to the module. Users can send it configuration variables and get status variables back. Asynchronous indications come back from the module as well as data streaming across the UART. Typical throughput for the module for TCP/UDP is up to about 1 Mb per second of true throughput. This is not going to be capable of streaming high-resolution video, but it fits the target applications.
