terminology
A thermal interface material is a thermally conductive material sandwiched between two surfaces in order to dissipate heat away from electronics. Its ability to conduct heat is called thermal conductivity, which is measured in Watts per meter Kelvin (W/m*K). Thermal grease is a liquid filled with thermally conductive filler such as alumina, used to promote better heat conduction between two surfaces. PCTIM is similar to thermal grease, but uses a novel chemistry that is solid at room temperature for ease of handling and optimized performance.
