There are terms one needs to be familiar with for this discussion of in-amp circuits. Differential voltage is the voltage difference between the positive and negative terminals. Common mode voltage is the average of the voltage on the positive and negative terminals. The in-amp is designed to preserve the differential signal, while getting rid of the common mode signal.
