Robotic vacuum cleaners employ SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) modules to measure the distance of surrounding objects and to create maps to maneuver around the house. Laser diodes of 780 nm wavelengths can be used by way of triangulation or direct time of flight (ToF) method. Higher power laser diodes at higher wavelengths can also be used for larger distances.
