Wide input voltage range DC/DC converters typically have a ratio of 4:1. Therefore three different converters would be needed to cover all input voltage ranges. Railway equipment manufacturers typically choose a DC/DC product family which have pin-compatible versions to cover the entire voltage range so that they can fit the correct converter according to the DC voltage used by the end customer. An example would be the RECOM RP20-FR series which comes with nominal 4:1 input voltages of 24, 48 or 110V to cover all input voltages from 9V up to 160V. The latest development in DC/DC technology are 10:1 range converters that can cover all input voltages with one converter. RECOM has a DC/DC converter which will operate over a wide input voltage range from 16.8V up to 154V, so only one part would be needed for all railway applications.
