The Blackbird supports Intel AES instructions to enable fast hardware encryption and decryption of data processed through the board. Additionally, the Lion’s on-board Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 security chip is included to provide enhanced system integrity and to defend against attacks from unauthorized software access. The TPM can lock out unauthorized hardware and software access. It provides a secure processing environment for applications in defense, medical, and industrial applications that require hardware-level security functions. Cybersecurity has become a major initiative in many industries such as Defense and Healthcare to protect from counterfeit hardware or unauthorized software. For example, in 2014, the United States Department of Defense (DoD) specified that "new computer assets procured to support DoD will include a TPM version 1.2 or higher where required by DISA STIGs and where such technology is available.“ The Blackbird's wide input voltage range (8 to 30 V) simplifies system power supply requirements. The Blackbird is fully compatible with 12 or 24 V vehicle applications. In addition, Reverse Voltage Protection, and Over Voltage Protection enhances field durability and reliability. Additionally, protection is provided for damaging transient voltages, over voltage, and RF intrusion. The Blackbird power supply circuitry guards the embedded system from several common types of power induced malfunction and damage.
