PV Generation Systems Slide 3

In all Photovoltaic systems, there is a rapid shutdown required by the National Electric Code. In North America, the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) has implemented this due to the occurrence of electrocution among firefighters when putting out fires. The rapid shutdown system is designed to enable fire fighters and first responders to confidently cutoff the DC power line on the panel side of power generation equipment quickly from outside the array area. Thus, an emergency cutoff device controlled by a relay must be installed near the solar panel array.
