MCP9600 Thermocouple Slide 8

How does the Microchip Technology MCP9600 help the system designer measure a thermocouple output? The answer is that the MCP9600 integrates all of the necessary functions for thermocouple signal conditioning inside one package. These include precision instrumentation amplifier circuitry, precision digital temperature sensor used for measuring the reference temperature for cold-junction compensation, precision 18-bit delta-sigma analog to digital converter, and a processor core which is used to compute the EMF to degree Celsius conversion using the coefficients derived from the NIST ITS-90 coefficients. Additionally, it includes a math engine with firmware to support type K, J, T, N, S, E, B and R detection. Reducing the design expertise needed for a discrete implementation, therefore, simplifying the design process and reducing time to market.
