Thermal Performance

It is good practice to estimate junction temperature and have some margin that minimizes Thermal Shutdown under normal conditions. In this example, the expected power dissipation of 300mW is well away from Thermal Shutdown. In the case of the non-A devices, a linear mode occurs during current limit and may invoke Thermal Shutdown if action is not taken based on the flag the device will cycle between on and off until the overload is corrected.
