Switch Fundamentals Slide 4

One of the main limitations of the parallel structure of an NMOS and PMOS switch is the increased capacitance between the signal lines and GND as well as between the source and the drain. These capacitances affect the frequency response of the switch in both on and off cases and directly impacts the switch bandwidth and off isolation performance. The advantage of the NMOS is that it reduces the capacitances mentioned above and provides a better frequency response compared with the parallel CMOS structure. Because of these advantages, the NMOS switch is recommended for high speed applications with high data rate links (USB, Ethernet, SONET) and wide band analog applications (HDTV).
