The A49xx series of devices implements mixed decay mode. For 31% of the off-time the driver is in fast decay and for the remaining 69% of the off-time the driver operates in slow decay. This method provides good current control while maintaining low current and torque ripple, and motor heating. Fast decay ensures the current in the winding can reach the intended step when the current is falling. When the winding current is rising in magnitude from one step to the next, the bridge operates in slow decay to maintain low current and torque ripple.
