Consumer portable lighting is the last area of lighting that will be discussed. Consumer portable lighting refers to lighting for applications such as flashlights, sports equipment, headlamps, miner lights, and bicycle head or tail lights. The advantages of using LEDs in these applications, vs. halogen lights for example are that they provide longevity, flexibility in terms of dimming, and instantaneous turn-on and turn-off. As previously mentioned, the LM3405A LED driver is a current mode control buck switching regulator and is designed to provide a simple, high efficiency solution in applications, including portable consumer. The LM3410 buck regulator decreases the feedback voltage for increased efficiency and adds a DIM pin for PWM dimming.
