Wi-Fi Versions – IEEE 802.11

The first version of the 802.11 protocol was released in 1997. Currently, a typical IoT router will function with the B, G, and N protocols. Newer routers will use the AC protocol which can feature multiple input and output antennas and higher bandwidths but higher power consumption. In the next few years, Panasonic expects to see more customer demand for the AX protocol which features even higher data rates than AC, up into the Gigabits per second speeds. BGN Wi-Fi operates at 2.4 GHz where as AC operates in the 5 GHz band. AX will operate in the bands between 1 GHz and 7 GHz as soon as they become available in addition to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
