Conventional PIR sensors typically consist of a lens to create various detection zones, an optical filter to block non-infrared light, pyroelectric sensing elements, and an impedance converter to provide an electrical signal. Panasonic’s sensors include all of this, however they also integrate an amplifier and comparator circuit on the chip, all densely packed inside the stem block. The Panasonic one-chip ASIC design is an improvement to discreet solutions by saving space, adding electromagnetic shielding to the circuitry, and cutting down on the number of components required.
