RT1050-Slide6

The RT1050 is built on 4 pillars. First, high performance and real-time processing. By utilizing the i.MX 6ULL platform the performance was pushed to 600MHz which is 50% faster than current M7 products. Real-time processing was achieved by moving to the Cortex®-M7 and adding 512KB of memory that can be configured entirely as on chip SRAM or tightly coupled memory. This allows for a fast response time and low latency. Secondly, high level of integration and security. The i.MX portfolio has a long history of multimedia and rich HMI experience, so the 2D graphics acceleration engine, parallel camera sensor interface and LCD display controller were brought over, as well as several audio interfaces for high performance audio. On the security side, AES-128 cryptography and on-the-fly QSPI flash decryption were enabled via the bus encryption engine. The last 2 pillars are all about enabling customers by either lowering the BoM cost or having a software enablement environment that is easy to use. Having DC/DC on board eliminates the need for a PMIC for those customers coming from the application processor world and the package used for the i.MX RT1050 is a 10x10 BGA which enables a 4 Layer PCB design. For the software environment, many years of history in MCU portfolio with Kinetis and LPC product line are leveraged, utilizing MCUXpresso tool chain which comes with an IDE, SDK, and configuration tool. NXP’s FreeRTOS as well as the global ARM® ecosystem are also offered.
