Year-over-year, IoT wearable devices and technologies have been the hottest topics at CES. An important segment of the wearables market is medical devices for the healthcare industry. The healthcare industry and consumers are finding that wearable medical devices can help to detect chronic illness and early disease warnings, which can possibly result in reduced costly hospital stays. All of this is very critical for increasing longevity. While the accuracy of these types of devices has increased, the battery continues to struggle with maintaining long life. Devices may sit on shelves for long periods of time before put to use, making sure that the device can start quickly and begin monitoring the patient’s health and recovery is critical. By 2019 the wearable device market is estimated to be worth $25 billion, selling 245 million devices, with half of those being in the health and fitness segment. In order to extend the life of these devices low quiescent current with high efficiency through the load range is required.
