Many manufacturers have avoided the incorporation of RF into their products because of the uncertainty over the approval and certification process. The perception seems to be that costs of certification and time required to acquire a grant are prohibitive and only the large companies can afford to do it. The reality is that the process has improved and getting a grant for wireless features is relatively straightforward. When working with RF, a clear distinction should always be made between what is technically possible and what is legally acceptable. Achieving a solution that meets technical objectives but which cannot be legally sold or operated serves little use. As such, issues of legality should be given high priority.
