PowerPath-Slide2

A multi-input power system requires switches to multiplex the input supplies to a common output load. A PowerPath controller is basically what the name implies—it selects and controls the switches through which power flows to the system. PowerPath controllers employ integrated or external, single or back-to-back, P-channel or N-channel MOSFET switches to multiplex up to three input supplies to a common load. The control of the switches will depend on the required outcome, whether it be the highest voltage or highest priority supply. The PowerPath controller that selects for highest voltage is called an ideal diode controller, while one which selects for highest priority is called a prioritized PowerPath controller.
