This presentation clarifies the functionality of the IMD-2000 in three practical use cases: security alarm systems, automated door opening, and escalator control. For each application, the sensor offers advantages to optimize the performance of motion detection. For security applications motion detectors are used for capturing movements in order to trigger alarms or other security functions like automated lighting. The IMD-2000 enables the detection of approaching intruders. It is possible to limit or adapt the detection field by configuration to the area of interest. The sensor also delivers more information like velocity, movement direction, and distance about the target. By filtering the detection results by range, users can fade out unimportant areas (for instance the neighboring property or the street). Filtering the detections by RCS reduces false alarms caused by small animals which are roaming the area. Motion sensors like the IMD-2000 are also used for automation. With the help of sensors, it is possible to control devices by movements. This enables comfortable functions of building technology like the automatic door opening when people walking towards the entrance. The IMD-2000 conserves energy by providing information about the movement direction of the door opening with directional indications of incoming/outgoing traffic. With the ETA the motion detector reduces the time of a door to be open, because on time control is possible through the sensor’s velocity output. The IMD-2000 also offers proximity detection. So, it is ideal for the automatic activation of escalators. With motion detection the escalator switches from standby into transportation mode when an approaching person wants to use it. The IMD-2000 allows focusing on the closest target and on time activation by ETA. Filtering detected objects over range and movement directions enables increased efficiency. Nearby trains, cars, or walking-by passengers can be ignored by adjusting sensitivity filters.
