As previously discussed, 10 GHz was a common alternative for PIR sensors. Both technologies dominated the market for motion detectors. With 10 GHz, integrators profit from the benefits of radar technology to a cheap price. However, with 20 years on the market, 10 GHz technology has not progressed. One reason for this is that they do not offer extended functionality and are not suitable for complex motion detection. Development possibilities are negligible and practically exhausted. Technological changes are typically caused by new frequency regulations. These factors illuminate why integrators are searching for alternatives with more technological potential. Though at a minimum, they are looking for an equivalent replacement in performance with minimal integration effort. With years of experience as motion detection specialists, integrators have established radar know how and have the requisite expertise. This experience should not go to waste as they desire not to change the established measurement technology and look for alternative options.
