Image of Infineon Technologies EXCELON™ F-RAM Family - Mission-Critical

EXCELON F-RAM is steadily gaining adoption as the data-logger memory of choice in industrial and automotive systems. This slide provides examples of how EXCELON F-RAM is used in some of these applications. The left block shows the EXCELON Auto F-RAM being used in an automotive camera-based vision system. In this system, the EXCELON F-RAM is used for fast, real-time storage of images in the event of a crash. Having reliable, last images before a crash event is crucial in the reconstruction of the accident or for later forensics analysis. Flash/eMMC based memories cannot store the images in real-time. The entire data will be lost if backup capacitors fail. Using continuous logging in a rolling buffer, EXCELON F-RAM can store the last image before an event. It can also eliminate the back-up batteries thereby reducing overall system cost and increasing the reliability. The block diagram on the right is a programmable logic controller that is used in a factory automation environment. With increased sensing and processing at the edge of the network, more data is generated, which must then be reliably captured in a non-volatile memory. Manufacturers are also transitioning to microcontrollers that support serial interface peripherals for compact designs. There is a transition from parallel to serial interface memories. But at the same time, critical data still needs to be captured within a few milliseconds if there is a power disruption event. EXCELON Ultra F-RAMs reliably store system data on power loss at speeds equivalent to parallel battery-backed SRAMs.
