New Product Discoveries Ep 402: SparkFun PIR Breakout Boards and LulzBot TAZ Pro S | DigiKey
In this video, Nate introduces SparkFun PIR Breakout Boards and the Lulzbot TAZ S Pro desktop 3D printer. SparkFun now offers breakout boards for the Panasonic EKM series of small movement, passive infrared sensors (PIR) available exclusively from DigiKey with an EKMB or EKMC type low profile sensor. Each sensor features a low-profile black lens with 90° x 90° detection area and 32 detection zones at a range of 5 meters. The EKMB sensors provide a digital output and consume only 1uA, making them ideal for battery-powered applications while the EKMC offers digital or analog output at 170uA. The breadboard-friendly breakouts have 0.1-inch pitch through-hole pads or in a daisy-chainable Qwiic I2C communication form factor compatible with SparkFun’s system of solder-free dev boards. To get started, SparkFun offers hook-up guides with complete hardware overview, sample code and links for Arduino libraries and Python packages. The TAZ Pro S features LulzBot’s M175 single extruder tool head which prints at temperatures up to 290°C and utilizes dual nickel-coated hardened steel drive gears. TPU, nylon, PLA, ABS, and rigid carbon-filled high-strength filaments may be used without grinding or slipping. A filament runout sensor automatically pauses printing when filament is low to prevent failed prints. Build volume tops out at 280 x 280 x 285 mm with a heated PEI coated glass build plate providing greater bed adhesion during printing and easy print removal. Additionally, the printer has automated offset calibration on all axes and automated bed leveling and nozzle cleaning, ensuring high-quality prints. The TAZ Pro S motherboard features a 32bit SAM3X8E processor and Trinamic TMC2130 stepper drivers for accurate and quiet operation. A five-inch full-color touchscreen provides the interface for print status and control.
