Bourns GMOV™ Protection Components | DigiKey Daily
Bourns offers their GMOV hybrid overvoltage protection component, which combines an MOV and a GDT. This solution minimizes degradation and catastrophic failure issues that can occur when discrete MOVs are subjected to transient surges and temporary overvoltage conditions. The isolation of the MOV from line voltage by the GDT shields the MOV from transients and temporary overvoltage spikes that typically damage the MOV over time. The GMOV device also offers ultra-low leakage, resulting in a higher reliability protection solution with virtually zero standby energy consumption. This drop-in replacement, for a standard 14 millimeter or 20 millimeter MOV, is ideal for any application powered by AC or rectified DC, such as lighting ballasts, surge protective devices, power supplies, LED lighting, and more.
