TPS2543EVM-064: USB 4.5 - 5.5 Vin, 2.5 A Switch

Summary

The Texas Instruments TPS2543EVM-064 evaluation module (EVM) helps designers evaluate the performance of the TPS2543 USB Charging Port Power Switch and Controller. The EVM contains input and output connectors. Jumper controls are also provided to ease evaluation of device features.

The TPS2543 is a USB charging port controller and power switch with an integrated USB 2.0 high-speed data line switch. The TPS2543 provides the electrical signatures on D+/D- to support the following charging schemes: USB battery charging specification 1.2; Chinese Telecom standard YD/T 1591-2009; and Divider Mode, compliant with Apple iPod, iPhone (1A), and iPad (2A) mobile digital devices.

The TPS2543 can be configured to automatically select the D+/D- mode needed to charge an attached device.

The TPS2543 provides load detection via the status pin that allows for both power supply control in S4/S5 charging and the ability to manage port power in a multi-port application.

System wake-up with a mouse/keyboard (low speed only) is fully supported by the TPS2543.

The TPS2543 73 mΩ power distribution switch is intended for applications where heavy capacitive loads and short circuits are likely to be encountered. Two programmable thresholds provide flexibility for setting current limits and load detection thresholds.
